Lead Brewer Job Opening

Job Function: General production operations

Schedule: Full-time, 40+ hours

SXM Beer is seeking a lead brewer to supplement production. SXM Beer is a 5 year old self-distributed production brewery located on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten. This is a full time macro role producing wort, packaging product, CIP’ing and maintaining a clean workspace and equipment. We are a self-distributed brewery producing 1200bbl per year, on track for 2000+bbl. The brewhouse is a 15bbl manual brewhouse with a large cellar of primarily 30bbl tanks. The ideal candidate will be someone with strong practical experience, solid communication skills, and the ability to adapt to a logistically challenging location. The lead  brewer role is a generalist position with the purpose of being a force multiplier. Lead brewer is to work alongside ownership, brewmaster/production director, sales team, production assistants, and contractors. 

Brewing on the island can be challenging, surmounting these obstacles, life on the island has many rewards; beaches in every direction, unmatched melting-pot culture, exciting nightlife, beautiful hikes, great restaurants, a direct cultural connection to the world, and the friendliest locals anywhere. 

This is a 8am-5pm M-F job, minor overtime may be required at times but is uncommon. 

We are looking for someone with a real passion for brewing, someone who can be an ambassador towards tourists and locals. A seasoned brewer capable of working with a high degree of autonomy will find the demands of the job very reasonable. Brewing on a small island requires a higher level of problem solving and planning than a domestic brewery. Patience, adaptability, and resourcefulness are necessary. Duties and Responsibilities:

-Full Process Production where needed

-Wort production

-Essential QA/QC

-Operating an inline bottling machine/labeler/rinser

-Cellar and Brewhouse CIP/Sanitation

-Lenticular Filtration and HEX pasteurization

- Assisting with field draft service

-Training local workers on entry level tasks (cleaning/filling kegs, packing cases, draft service)

Job Qualifications:

- 3 years production experience brewing/packaging in a production facility leadership role

- A demonstrated ability to perform all tasks listed

- A clean criminal background for immigration purposes

-Good Attention to detail and the ability to multitask

-Ability to lead and delineate tasks to assistants

-Create a team environment, foster and encourage learning

- Lift heavy objects often (Grain, kegs, cases)

-On feet and walking most of the day

-Able to work in a hot environment
