Surly Brewing Co. is seeking a full-time Marketing Project Manager to join our team in Minneapolis, MN. This role is not for the timid. We are an evolving organization meeting the needs of various internal clients and external agencies, partners and vendors. The PM is responsible for the project management of various categories across multiple departments of the brewery. This includes the coordination, implementation and completion of creative production, beer programming, marketing campaigns and paid media trafficking. The primary responsibility of this role includes managing the creative briefing process, project communication, timeline development, vendor assignment and task accountability between the marketing department and all other areas of the business.  The salary range for this position will be $55-60k.  

Role and Responsibilities

  • Developing marketing project plans and managing the day-to-day development and coordination with cross-functional internal teams, external teams, sponsors, partners and vendors from initiation to execution.
  • Playing a leadership role in the management of projects by:
  • Gathering key dates, milestones and deadlines from all relevant stakeholders
  • Planning and scheduling project timelines and work-back creative calendars for marketing projects and cross-department campaigns
  • Creating and executing project plans, including deadlines, specs, assets, budget, vendor coordination, status updates, approvals and final delivery
  • Pro-actively driving & communicating all deadlines to ensure cross-functional team compliance to effectively manage timelines
  • Managing print, production, retail & POS vendor relations including but not limited to sourcing products, soliciting RFQs, negotiating pricing, establishing timelines, coordinating delivery, ensuring accuracy and quality of the final product
  • Creating, updating and maintaining a list of all creative production and print deliverables
  • Managing paid media efforts; requesting vendor rate cards, delivering artwork, tracking placements and making best future recommendations based on goals, budget and timeline.
  • Assisting with departmental reporting for paid, earned and owned media.
  • Juggling multiple concurrent projects and a high volume of work in a short amount of time
  • Translating ambiguous details and chasing information to keep projects moving forward
  • Enforcing deadlines with an overall strong sense of urgency

  • You have strong marketing and/or communications experience with the ability to implement a strategic, brand-focused, integrated marketing approach to all projects
  • You are willing to accept new challenges, take on new responsibilities, learn on the job, and avoid complacency


  • 3+ years of project management, client services, account planning or production experience
  • Bachelor's degree with a demonstrated interest in marketing, advertising or communication
  • Proficient in project management software; preferred experience in Wrike and/or a willingness to adapt and learn quickly
  • Proven experience developing marketing project plans and managing their day-to-day development and completion
  • Natural ability to follow established processes and understand organizational workflows
  • Confidence, pride in work, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and time management skills
  • Direct work experience in project management capacity
  • Direct work experience within a creative landscape
  • Proven experience in client services and managing people, processes & expectations

  • Agency experience 
  • Experience working with or for a CPG
  • Creating and editing Gantt charts
  • PMP Certification

Working Conditions

The Marketing Project Manager will work traditional office hours (9am to 5pm), along with nightly and weekend event support, as needed. 

COVID - Surly will be following the upcoming mandate requiring all employees to either provide proof of vaccination or submit to regular testing. We also require masks in all public spaces. Just another way we show that we give a damn about each other and our community.
