Position Overview:

The Assistant Packaging Managers oversees a continously operating packaging department. There are four primary unit operations, canning, bottling, variety packaging and kegging. The Assistant Packaging Managers provides leadership for packaging technicians and ensures proper staffing and training. The Assistant Packaging Managers ensures that short and medium term packaging goals are met. This leader takes care to release the highest possible quality products. The manager creates and is responsible for a safe working enviroment.  

Working Relationships: 

This position reports directly to the Packaging Manager of the brewery. This person collaborates with leaders in Brewing, Quality Assurance, Engineering and Maintenance, and Planning and Logistics.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Packaging Manager in day-to-day operations
  • Responsible for coworker safety in the packaging area
  • Supervise and manage the Packaging Team by leading by example
  • Observe and practice safe work methods and ensure 100% compliance with wearing and using PPE
  • Create and implement a training plan and assist in execution of training for both newly hired technicians and retraining existing technicians
  • Build and/or maintain SOPs to ensure product is properly packaged with quality and safety in mind.
  • Provide input on performance and make recommendations for personnel actions
  • Write and deliver performance appraisals
  • Adhere to Packaging department budget including temporary staff
  • Responsible for raw materials to be on site when needed
  • Responsible for highest packaged product quality
  • Able to use root cause analysis to aid in training and equipment reliability
  • Work with and packaging team to improve performance and knowledge
  • Oversee shift change and ensure communication between shifts and department
  • Identify production related issues ensure tracking of production department metrics including OEE
  • Ensure coworkers are executing to standard operating procedures
  • Work with the maintenance team to ensure the highest level of performance from equipment
  • Compile and analyze data to ensure continuous run times and to achieve quality metrics
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships
  • Represent Two Roads culture, values, and principles
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong business acumen, detail oriented & analytical mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal skills. 
  • Excel competence for data evaluation
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience with SAP preferred; ERP experience a plus
  • Takes ownership and initiative
  • Have understanding of OSHA regulations
  • Must have a flexible schedule and ability to work a rotating on-call schedule for after-hour emergency
  • Attitude: Positive, team oriented and results driven with a good sense of humor

  • Electric Pallet Jack, Mechanical Pallet Jack, Mechanical Tote Lift, Fork Lift, Pocket Knife/Box Cutter, DIN Spanner Wrench, Assorted Wrenches and Screw Drivers, Rubber Mallet, Safety Glasses, Safety-toe, slip-resistant boots, dust mask/respirator, chemical/heat resistant gloves, face shield, bump cap
  • Be a subject matter expert on the operation and maintenance of all packaging equipment

Environmental Conditions

While performing the duties of this position, the assistant packaging manager is exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, including but not limited to; extreme heat, potential for physical injury, exposure to hot fluids, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, strong odors, chemicals, loud regular noise, extreme heights, and moving machinery.
