Chief Executive Officer

General Purpose

This position serves as the internal and external leader and spokesperson for the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) and is a public evangelist for the hobby of homebrewing. The position is responsible for growing the membership of the AHA and participation in Homebrew Con and the National Homebrew Competition. The position will set the strategic direction of the AHA’s content production and serve as the AHA’s ambassador to the homebrewing community and to the media. The position is also responsible for building strategic partnerships that bolster the AHA’s standing in the homebrewing community and ultimately grow membership. 

Essential Duties

- Grow American Homebrewers Association membership through a combination of grass roots efforts and strategic partnerships with outside organizations.

- Elevate the awareness and status of the American Homebrewers Association in the homebrewing world through public appearances.

- Serve as an industry-leading spokesperson and educator on the subject of homebrewing.

- Actively engage with the homebrewing community via social media to enhance the AHA brand.

- Present on homebrewing issues to homebrewing clubs.

- Serve as the spokesperson to media inquiries related to homebrewing.

- Work closely with membership team to determine the strategic direction of content, Zymurgy magazine content and AHA member benefits.

- Work closely with events team to determine the strategic direction of Homebrew Con and the National Homebrewing Competition. 

- Serve as the staff liaison to the AHA Governing Committee. 

- Secure speaking engagements at all major homebrewing and alternative fermentation events.

- Partner with allied trade members who advertise and sponsor AHA properties to create mutually beneficial promotional opportunities.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills

- Excellent knowledge of the brewing process with a focus on homebrewing

- Strong knowledge of alternative fermentation practices

- Strong writing skills

- Strong ability make a compelling sales pitch

- Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently

- Strong ability to secure buy in from top level decision makers

Travel Required

- Travel to Homebrew Con

- Travel to Great American Beer Festival

- Travel to Craft Brewers Conference

- Travel to homebrewing and alternative fermentation events as assigned
