We are seeking a Brewery QA Technician who is passionate about craft beer and the use of sustainable business practices. The ideal candidate brings a related work experience, at least 2 years coursework & lab work in brewing/fermentation science, and is a super organized, multi-tasker who welcomes the opportunity to take on this 1-person role with our 13-member team producing 10,000 bbls/year.

The position is full-time, approx. 30hrs/wk. (or more depending on production), 4-5 days/wk. with flexible hours between 8a-4p.

Position Summary 

The HUB QA Technician maintains the highest standard in quality control for all beer produced at HUB.  This position executes all QA functions, assays, and parameters for the brewery; performs all quality control tests on the product at various stages of brewing and packaging; oversees statistical analysis and deviation for consistency; and helps implement & improve HUB’s quality control processes. As needed, the QA Technician will also cross-train and work in other areas of the brewery to support brewing and packaging operations.


  • Work with Brewery Operations Director and Head Brewer to schedule QA testing.
  • Ensure QC tests are performed regularly on wort samples and finished beer for specification and micro stability (plating), and ensure that brewing staff performs all release parameter tests correctly.
  • Track and monitor barley specifications, extract, and performance.
  • Track data and review with Operations Director & Head Brewer.
  • Standard laboratory analysis, including sterile sampling, Bitterness, Color, Alcohol, Dissolved Oxygen.
  • Collect and examine product samples during production and test for quality, color, content, consistency, viscosity, acidity, or specific gravity.
  • Measure or weigh ingredients, using scales or measuring containers.
  • Set temperature, pressure, and time controls.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and maintain neat, accurate QA logs for all brewing QA activities including recording production and test data, processing steps, temperature and steam readings, cooking time, batches processed, and test results.
  • Taste and sign beer for release, based on qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Implement and track taste panel scoring. Track trends on age date reporting.
  • Monitor and manage Age Date Library.
  • Work with Brewery Operations Director and Head Brewer to solve quality issues and implement process improvements.
  • Assist with producing R&D beers and beverages, ensuring a shelf stable product goes to market.

Required & Desired Qualifications 

  • Minimum 2 years of brewery and/or related quality control and lab experience.
  • Course work in microbiology or lab science for breweries.
  • Education & knowledge in brewing science and safe chemical handling.
  • Understanding of fermentation, set points, and diacetyl rest.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of current industry practices.
  • Must have strong knowledge of safe work operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong team-player qualities as well as ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Dependable attendance and flexible availability to work evenings and weekends if needed.
  • Proficient computer and email skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Motivated to make a difference in an entrepreneurial environment.
