Overview

The Head Brewer is responsible for managing the full scope of production, shipping and receiving, inventory management, packaging processes, and thorough, timely record maintenance. The Head Brewer is also responsible for ensuring a clean and sanitary work environment and for effectively leading the production team. The Head Brewer reports to the Director of Production.

Responsibilities

Production and Packaging Management

● In collaboration with Director of Production, manages production, shipping and receiving,

packaging, and inventory maintenance

● Supervises, operates, and maintains the 8BBL, 15BBL and 50BBL brewhouses, cidery, wild

fermentation program, and barreling program

● Manages production and packaging schedules to support orders, forecasts, and budgets

● Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with production and packaging SOPs

● Collaborates with Maintenance Department to ensure equipment and facilities are

maintained properly

● Actively participates in brewing and packaging activities

● Sources raw materials to support production requirements

● Adheres to budget guidelines provided by management

● Utilizes and maintains up-to-date brewery management software

● Identifies annual competitions and style categories for company participation

● Improves upon current brands and assists in the development of innovation pipeline

● Performs all other duties as assigned by management

Team Management

● Fosters an environment of training and development for all team members’ growth

● Schedules brewery production team, adhering to budget guidelines

● Manages recruitment function within production team to include interviewing, hiring,

onboarding, training, and developing new team members

● Oversees accurate and efficient completion of job responsibilities of entire production team

● Addresses performance issues proactively and in a timely manner

● Partners with human resources in employment relations management to include coaching,

disciplining, and administering terminations

● Conducts semi-annual performance review and merit increase process

Quality Assurance / Quality Control

● Manages and supports lab team

● Provides technical support with a dedicated quality technician for complex tasks\0

● Ensures all products pass QA/QC guidelines prior to product release

Safety

● Maintains working knowledge of OSHA standards, requirements, and expectations and

ensures department compliance

● Manages and collaborates on Good Manufacturing Process audits and corrections

● Continually focuses on building a culture of safety and sanitation

● Ensures adherence to company cleanliness standards by overseeing cleaning schedules

and holding staff accountable

Communication

● Attends and actively participates in company and department meetings

● Collaborates effectively with other department heads

● Participates in sales team activities such as public speaking, distributor meetings, retail

events and local guild activities

Skills and Experience

● Experience working in a large production brewery on a 30BBLl brewhouse or similar,

required

● 5⁺ years professional brewing experience required

● Management experience required

● Experience operating a Wild Goose or similar, in-line can line required

● Extensive experience and understanding of the brewing process, sanitation, yeast health and

fermentation, beer transfer clarification and brewery quality control procedures required

● Proven ability to grow and develop a successful team required

● Formal brewing education preferred

● Willingness to work hard, often at odd hours, on a production defined schedule

● Ability to utilize resources and make appropriate decisions independently

● Impeccable attention to detail with excellent verbal and written communication skills

● Strong math, problem-solving, and mechanical skills

● Ability to troubleshoot, find solutions under pressure, and multitask while maintaining focus

and a constructive attitude

● Willingness to find root causes, and support long-term improvements

● Dedication to learning, improving, and contributing to a dynamic and growing team

● Experience with Ekos or similar business management software preferred

● Ability to safely work on ladders and elevated platforms and in confined spaces

● Ability to read and follow written instructions on Safety Data Sheets and manufacturer's

instructions for product use

● Strong conflict management skills

Requirements

● All skills and experience as outlined above

● Ability to work in a production environment with loud noise, strong odors, wet surfaces, hot

and cold temperatures, and constant movement

● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high-pressure deadlines, time constraints,

and distractions

● Ability to perform job responsibilities of all production team members

● Ability to work schedule as assigned by management to include early mornings, evenings

and weekends

● Ability to manipulate valves and clamps

● Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for long periods of time

● Ability to bend, kneel, reach, twist, stoop, and climb ladders\0

● Ability to lift 60 pounds without assistance throughout the shift

● Ability to push, pull, move kegs (approximately 160 pounds)

● Following of all company health and safety standards to include proper use of personal

protective equipment and compliance with all OSHA and CDC guidelines

● Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

● Ability and willingness to drive company box truck and execute deliveries

● 21+ years of age

● High School Diploma or GED
