The Director of Retail oversees all retail operations under the umbrella of Burial Beer Co. which includes the Asheville Taproom, the Charlotte taproom, the Raleigh taproom, and Forestry Camp Bar and Restaurant, VISUALS wine bar and our future tour programs. The Director of Retail is responsible for leading and managing the following positions: Taproom Managers, General Managers, and Food Director. Responsibilities include overseeing budgetary organization processes, and owning customer satisfaction and business metrics for all taproom and retail operations and serves as a liaison between the organization’s leadership team and above positions by initiating and executing strategic direction. As we expand the Burial brand geographically to drive our immersive and introspective experiences further, we are seeking the right leader that embraces our unique vibe while carrying these plans and our vision and mission forward.


  • Oversee implementation of policies and procedures that increase operational effectiveness and maximize long-term performance
  • Ensures all SOPs are up to date and being implemented

  • Training schedules
  • Assist management in developing systems to train, develop, and improve each employee and the team as a whole at each location
  • Ensures the vision of each establishment is being executed
  • Provides support to Managers when dealing with employee and customer issues
  • Cultivates employee engagement and retention through frequent communication and feedback with managers
  • Meets weekly with Taproom Managers, General Managers, and Food Director
  • Addresses full retail staff quarterly
  • Encourages autonomy and leadership from Managers and sets the example with a professional attitude and demeanor
  • Provides leadership and direction to corresponding teams to ensure the successful operation of the combined organization
  • Build out strategic plan for meeting the company’s 10 year revenue goals
  • Ensure management at each location are purchasing properly and costs are being controlled
  • Provides revenue projections and programming insight into how to hit revenue goals
  • Works closely with the Director of Brand to build high-quality brand image and accountability of retail staff executing brand goals
  • Develop/enhance retail vision, strategy, and plan to drive growth and maintain profitability
  • Create an inspirational and growth-enabled environment for staff and foster positive company culture; consistently reinforce company Core Values, Vision, and Mission.
  • Oversee the commitment of a safe, secure, and healthy facility environment at each location by following and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures, and complying with health and legal regulations
  • Comply with and enforce all federal, state, county, and municipal regulations that pertain to breweries and restaurants, health and safety, and personnel
  • Provide advice and suggestions to owners as needed
  • Works with the Director of Finance on budget creation and management of expansion projects
  • Works with the Director of Brand and the Director of Facilities to address the operating needs for physical buildings, infrastructure, and marketing image through cross-functional coordination
  • Fulfill leadership team commitments, including: weekly meetings, trainings, cultural workshops, and team building


  • Bachelor’s Degree in management or business-related field
  • 5 years experience managing the operations of multiple locations preferred
  • Corporate leadership experience is a plus
  • Experience in the Food and Beverage industry is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service and management skills
  • Goal-oriented with the ability to demonstrate Burial’s Core Values with integrity
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with people at all levels across the company.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity motivating and unifying teams
  • Knowledge of P&L, budgeting, sales goals and forecasting
