Human Resources Manager
Night Shift Brewing is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Professional to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is committed to ensuring a best-in-class employment experience for our team from recruitment and selection to retention to offboarding and everything in between!
With a mix of soft and technical skills, the HR Manager will ensure the day-to-day operations of the HR function runs smoothly. A true generalist, the successful candidate will be able to seamlessly switch between detail-oriented responsibilities such as payroll and benefit administration, providing thoughtful guidance to employees and managers on employee relations and performance issues, and partnering with the Director of Human Resources on a variety of strategic initiatives.
This is a great opportunity for someone who doesn’t see themselves as the typical HR professional. They are approachable, down-to-earth, and can live within the gray space that is often the reality in a growing organization while still ensuring the company is in compliance with all laws and regulations. We’re looking for someone who is down-to-earth, able to pivot quickly, and is able to balance being an employee advocate while wearing their “business” hat.
While this is a hybrid role, weekly presence in our Everett and Boston locations is required. It's important that our team gets to know you!
Key Responsibilities
HR Admin & Benefits
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for approximately 100 employees (increases to 130 seasonally)
- Maintain the HRIS/Payroll system; update as needed based on compensation, position, and other changes
- Establish electronic filing system and maintain all employee files
- Ensure all employees are accurately enrolled in the benefits of their choice and removed as needed. Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy.
- Partner with the Chief Operating Officer to make recommendations for the company’s annual Open Enrollment period; own all employee and carrier communication related to Open Enrollment
- Stay up-to-date on all compliance and legal requirements, ensuring Night Shift remains compliant
- Use data to analyze trends in labor utilization, labor costs, and other areas of interest; prepare reports to share trends to introduce or advance business cases for decision-making
Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding
- Own full-cycle recruitment process; partner with hiring managers to create attractive job descriptions, maintain postings, and assist with resume screening
- Conduct initial interviews with candidates and provide recommendations to hiring managers on the candidate pool
- Prepare and send all offer letters; ensure all pre-employment paperwork is completed in a timely manner
- Design and implement company-wide onboarding program; ensure all new employees receive a strong foundation in Night Shift’s policies, procedures and history
- Design and implement a 30/60/90 day process for all new hires to increase retention and identify where additional support may be needed
- Conduct exit interviews as needed; identify trends and make recommendations to senior leadership to increase retention
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Manage employee relations issues including conducting investigations, assessing facts, and recommending discipline as needed
- Act as a resource and coach to employees who may need support in dealing with interpersonal issues
- Ensure planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training managers to coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee concerns; and counseling employees and supervisors.
- Manage annual performance review process
Other
- Enforces management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.
- Spearhead company’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives
- Maintain Night Shift’s compensation program
- Partner with events and marketing teams on planning and executing employee appreciation programs and events
- Work closely with Director of Human Resources on various company-wide initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Experience, & Skills
- 3 – 5 years of human resources experience required; generalist experience strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or similar work experience required
- PHR/SHRM-CP certification preferred
- Knowledge of labor laws and pay practices required; experience running payroll a plus!
- Experience with HRIS and timecard systems (MassPay/MP experience a huge plus)
- Understanding of benefits administration and ERISA laws
- Successful candidate is comfortable having difficult conversations
- Experience using data to make a business case
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Approachable, responsive, commitment to being a resource to employees and managers

Compensation
As an employee of Night Shift Brewing, the Human Resources Manager will earn up to $85,000 annually, depending on experience. Benefits include health and dental insurance, generous paid time off, 401(k) participation, beer/merchandise credits, and more!

Since then, Night Shift has grown beyond our wildest dreams.
