SUMMARY

An Avery Lab Technician assists in the quality assurance of Avery beer at every step in the brewing and packaging process. 

Our lab is the center of our production operations. We operate the lab 365 days a year including all company holidays. An ideal candidate will be stoked to apply their knowledge, experience, and love for fermentation science in a lab setting. Working intimately with our entire staff, every department, and all our beers is a very demanding and rewarding responsibility here at Avery Brewing Co. This position is a Full-Time position. The training period (first 60 days) will be 5 8s Monday – Friday. (This will allow for the most one-on-one hands-on training time with the quality lab team and exposure to the production team.) After 60 days they will transition to 4 10s Sunday – Wednesday.

Daily fermentation monitoring analyses and interpretation of results; Aseptic sampling and plating; Packaging line sampling; Beer library maintenance; Physical and chemical analysis of brite beer; Interpretation and communication of physio-chemical and microbiological testing results; Sensory evaluation of beer; PCR; Lab sanitation; Analytical instrument maintenance

  • Able to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize tasks efficiently.

  • Basic brewing knowledge is required. 
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking are essential to everyday tasks. 
  • Social skills and communication are of the highest priority including quality discussions with each department at the brewery. 
  • Must be motivated to understand and master all quality control processes in the production of Avery beer.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Must prioritize safety and quality.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule as dictated by production needs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERTISE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working fast-paced food or other manufacturing industry is preferred. Brewery experience, especially Brewhouse, Cellar, Packaging and/or Quality Assurance experience is strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to use senses to detect dangerous gasses and malfunctioning equipment and communicate any issues with colleagues and manager.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50lbs responsibly and repeatedly
  • Able to stand for the duration of a shift.
  • Able to work in a very hot or very cold environment for extended periods of time. 
  • Able to maneuver quickly around tight spaces.

COMPENSATION

$20.00 - $24.00 depending on experience. This position does include a $2/ hr shift differential.
