We have a rare opening for a new brewer position at our 1,500 BBL per year brewpub in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Our new brewer will be expected to contribute in all parts of the brewing department including wort production on our 15 BBL manual brewhouse, packaging operations, handling and organizing raw ingredients, cellar work, yeast handling, and tank cleaning/sanitizing. All while contributing to our culture of safety and continuous improvement. 

The successful candidate for this position is someone who is dedicated to the craft of brewing with a strong appreciation for good beer, someone who never gets complacent and who works well in a small interconnected team. They are hard working, capable of multitasking effectively, and able to work with sharp focus and tidiness. At Threes we believe in empowering individuals and giving them tools to make their stamp on the craft. As part of the brewing team they will be expected to develop and manage self driven projects, to continuously improve our brewing processes and help make the best quality beer possible. 

The Role 

  • Responsible for producing wort on our 15 BBL brewing system 
  • Learning and executing SOPs correctly 
  • Fermentation monitoring and cellar activities 
  • Yeast harvesting, pitching and health management (cell counts/viability/pitch rate calculation) 
  • Cip and cleaning of all brewery vessels, equipment and space 
  • Safely handling and executing of dry hopping 
  • Keg washing and filling 
  • Lead on packaging runs with Iron Heart Mobile Canning ensuring quality and consistency 
  • Raw material and finished product handling 
  • Working in hot/wet/cold/humid conditions 
  • Prepare, attend and contribute to weekly production meetings 

Location & Hours 

  • You will be expected to work in our main production space in Gowanus, BK
  • Monday - Friday 
  • 40 hr per week

Requirements 

  • At least four years of commercial brewing experience 
  • Formal brewing education and/or a degree in a similar discipline is recommended.
  • A combination of work experience and relevant education may be considered for the right candidate. 
  • Ability to lift 55 pound bags of malt and 44 pound boxes of hops repeatedly
  • Ability to comprehend and remember standard operating procedures
  • ForkLift experience 
  • High level of communication skills 
  • Excitement and creativity for the job 
  • Comfortable on a ladder 
  • Solid references are required 
  • Excel skills are a plus.
